Ryan, one of our packaging line guys, decided that he had the super human ability to consume five pounds of Salted Nut Roll. Let me back up a step. One of our ingredient suppliers, Brewer’s Supply Group, has the slogan of “A Nut Roll On Every Pallet.” Every skid of malt we buy from them, somewhere in amongst those bags is a Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll. It’s a nice surprise to find if you’re the one that happens to be crushing in grain and get a little candy bonus with your day. To say thanks to their customers, BSG sends a special five pound nut roll for Christmas or to congratulate on a momentous accomplishment. This past Christmas we got our five pound nut roll in the mail and had it displayed in the pub. As I mentioned before, Ryan somehow decided that he could eat the entire thing in one sitting. Money went into the pot and the deal was that he had between 3:30 and 5:00 to eat the whole thing in one sitting. The kitchen plated it up and the contest began. Here are pictures and video from the herculean effort that Ryan put into trying to consume 10,800 calories of peanuts, nougat, and caramel.
The Result: Winner, Nut Roll. Not even close.
I’m not sure how much someone like Kobayashi could eat, but that’s a lot of nut roll.
