Rate Beer Best 2010

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

For what I believe is the 3rd time in four years, RateBeer.com has compiled their scores and declared us the Best Brewery in the World.  We also have three beers in the top 10 worldwide, and five in the top 100.  The Brewpub is also listed at #25 on their top 50 brewpub list.

It’s undeniably cool to 1) see that we have such staying power and more importantly 2) have so much support and love from all of you craft beer drinkers out there.  We will do our part to continue to crank out our patented style of “not normal” beers if you guys continue your fervent support for us.

Cheers!

Sunday to go sales passes committee

INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosier craft beer brewers are seeking the right to sell their unique concoctions on Sundays, a change in state law they say would put them on equal footing with the state’s wineries.

Theirs was one of two bills heard by committees Wednesday at the Statehouse that could change Indiana’s alcohol laws.

The bill that would authorize Sunday microbrewery sales passed muster with the Senate’s commerce committee in a 9-2 vote. Mark Webb of the Brewers of Indiana Guild called his member breweries “good corporate citizens” whose beer likely represents less than 1 percent of all beer consumed in Indiana.

Members of the Guild include Three Floyds Brewing Co. in Munster, Crown Brewing Co. in Crown Point, Shoreline Brewery & Restaurant in Michigan City and Back Road Brewery in LaPorte.

Sen. Ron Alting, R-Lafayette, and chairman of the committee, said he saw the bill as an opportunity to support local businesses.

Sen. Greg Taylor, D-Indianapolis, said he is an opponent of access to alcohol, but he said the Hoosier brewers convinced him to vote in favor of the bill. Among the influencing factors he said, are prices that could reach as high as $9 a glass.

“I don’t think they’re going to be gulping it,” Taylor said. “I don’t think they could.”

The bill now moves to the full Senate for a second reading.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives’ public policy committee heard testimony on a bill authored by Democrat Rep. Trent Van Haaften of Mount Vernon and Republican Rep. Matthew Bell of Avilla that would allow alcohol to be sold on election days.

The committee didn’t take a vote.

Democratic committee member Rep. Scott Pelath of Michigan City, who authored a similar bill, said the committee is likely to consolidate all House alcohol measures into one piece of legislation before voting.

Good news Indiana!

Truck 1 of 2 Arrives

Friday, January 8th, 2010

For those of you that are very Twitter Savvy you might have already guessed the content of this post, but we recently acquired a number of tanks and a keg line from Lagunitas in Petaluma, CA. I’m going to throw up this gallery of photos showing the removal of tanks from their brewery and their arrival here. As the other truck shows up next Tuesday and as we get them installed, I’ll post more photos.

Which Indiana brewery is producing your favorite lineup of Indiana beers?

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

According to Hoosier Beer Geek’s readers, it’s overwhelmingly….us!  And they have helpful pie charts to demonstrate the results.

Additionally, we rank as the third favorite brewpub. (It should be noted that we came in 1st and 3rd respectively last year as well)

The brewpub numbers are up a few notches from last year.  AND (Here’s the buried headline) starting on February 1st, the pub will be opened on Mondays.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Mondays will be added making the pub’s hours:

Monday – Friday 11:30-Midnight

Saturday Noon-Midnight

Sunday Noon-10

Last Call is always 45 minutes before close and the Kitchen always closes 1 hour before the bar closes.

So certainly good news for all of you that we see on Mondays sulking away from the door once you realize you should have called ahead.

And for those of you on the opposite side of the state: Three Floyds Night at Rocky’s on Wednesday, January 13. If you find yourself in the area of New Albany:

Rocky’s Sub Pub is staging a Three Floyds Night on Wednesday, January 13. Lincoln Anderson is coming down from the frozen north to regale attendees with information, and the list is impressive. Go here to read it and glean further information.  On draft: Gumballhead, Dreadknaught, Robert the Bruce, Pride and Joy, Alpha King, Alpha Klaus, Broo Doo, Moloko,Ham on Rye, Großer Kurfürst, and hopefully Alpha King on a beer engine. Bottles: Behemoth, Black Sun Stout, Gorch Foch, Dreadnaught, Pride and Joy, and Alpha King.

Rodger has some nice things to say about us, so go to his blog and read about it.

More interesting news to come later this week.
